NATIONAL AIR MONITORING PROGRAMME (NAMP)

The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) has established 32 (thirty two) Ambient Air Quality Monitoring (AAQM) stations in the state under National Air Quality Monitoring Programme (NAMP) sponsored by the Central Pollution Control Board. Under the programme 4 (four) criteria pollutants viz. Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), Nitrogen dioxide (NO2), Particulate Matter (PM10) and Particulate Matter (PM2.5) is monitored on weekly basis in these stations across the state.

The monitoring of pollutants is carried out for 24 hours (4-hourly sampling for gaseous pollutants and 8-hourly sampling for particulate matter) with a frequency of twice a week, to have 104 observations in a year. The data generated through these stations are transmitted to Central Pollution Control Board. The monitoring of meteorological parameters such as wind speed and direction, relative humidity and temperature were also integrated with the monitoring of air quality.
