1. Spatial Environmental Planning Programme
|
The Spatial Environmental Planning Programme
is a national Programme sponsored by Ministry of Environment and
Forests, Government of India and coordinated by the Central
Pollution Control Board. The programme initially catered to
siting of industries. It was expanded subsequently to cater to
siting of industrial estates, compilation of environmental
information, environmental improvement of urban areas/mining
areas/tourism areas, etc. |

The activities under Spatial Environmental
Planning Programme are Preparation of State Environmental Atlas,
Preparation of District Environmental Atlas, Revision of
District wise Zoning Atlas and preparation of State Level
Guidelines for Siting of Industries and Preparation of District
Specific Guidelines for Siting of Industries. |

Till date draft reports on Environmental
Atlas of Meghalaya have been prepared and submitted to the
Central Pollution Control Board for finalization. Digitization
works for the coverages of the State maps is in progress. |
2.
Bio-monitoring of Important Rivers in Meghalaya
|
The
project “Bio-monitoring of Important Rivers in Meghalaya” is a
time bound project sanctioned by the Central Pollution Control
Board, Delhi. Under this project, the Board aims to obtain
information regarding the overall health of some major rivers in
the State. The objectives of this project are:- |

To obtain information about the
state of ecological environment of the water bodies.

To assess the physico-chemical
and bacteriological characteristics.

To generate base line data on the
aspects of the bnio-monitoring.
-
To plan control strategies for
restoration of the pristine water quality of the
water bodies.
Under this project, the Board is
conducting bio-monitoring programmes in the following

Ambient Air Monitoring at Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP),
Byrnihat.

The project “Ambient Air Monitoring at
Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP), Byrnihat” is a time bound project
sanctioned by the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi. Under this project,
the Board aims to monitor the ambient air quality in the area. The data
generated will help in the preparation of plans and strategies to counter the
air pollution problem in the area. The objectives of this project are:- |

To
determine status and trends of ambient air quality
at E.P.I.P., Byrnihat.

To
ascertain whether the ambient air quality at E.P.I.P.,
Byrnihat meets the prescribed standards.

To plan
control strategies for effective control of air
pollution.

4. Industrial
Monitoring in the State of Meghalaya
|
The project
“Industrial Monitoring in the State of Meghalaya” is a
time bound project sanctioned by the Central Pollution
Control Board, Delhi. The objectives of this project
are:- |
- To
develop a proper set-up in the Board dedicated for
industrial monitoring purposes only.
- To
develop and carry out a regular and uniform
monitoring schedule.
- To
ensure that the industrial units conform to the
prescribed standards.
- To
generate emission, ambient air quality and emission
data in the industrial areas.
- To
fulfil the provisions of the Acts and Rules.

5. Environmental Mass
Awareness Campaign in Meghalaya
|
The project
“Environmental Mass Awareness Campaign in Meghalaya” is
a time bound project sanctioned by the Central Pollution
Control Board, Delhi. The objective of this project is
to create awareness among the public, in general, and
the school/college students, in particular, on the
importance to preserve a clean and pollution free
environment and the ways and means to prevent and
control pollution of land, water and air in our
day-to-day activities. |
