AIR QUALITY MONITORING NETWORK

1.  NATIONAL AIR MONITORING PROGRAMME (NAMP)

The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board is monitoring the ambient air quality of the state capital, Shillong, under NAMP from 2(two) stations at State Board’s premises and at MUDA Complex, Police Bazar.

Under NAMP, four air pollutants viz. SO2, NO2, SPM and RSPM have been monitored. The monitoring of meteorological parameters such as Wind speed and direction, Relative humidity, and temperature was also integrated with the monitoring of air quality.

The ambient air quality samples were collected as per the standards prescribed by CPCB. The data pertaining to the ambient air, meteorological data were submitted to CPCB for compilation and preparation of report.

2.  INDUSTRIAL AIR QUALITY MONITORING

The Board has carried out the Ambient Air Quality and Source Emission monitoring for industries units operating in the state.

Parameters Monitored:

1) For Ambient Air Quality: 1) Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM)
    2) Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM)
    3) Sulphur Dioxide (SO2)
    4) Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx)
       
2) For Stack Emission: 1) Particulate Matter (PM)

 
3.  AMBIENT AIR QUALITY MONITORING SURVEY

The Board is regularly conducting ambient air quality survey in different areas of the state capital and district headquarters. The survey was also conducted on occasions like Deepawali festival. The quality of the ambient air during the festival, 2006 is depicted below:
